The Nigeria Integrity Film Awards (HomeVida), in partnership with Google Nigeria and the Nigeria Film Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has embarked on a Safer Internet Programme in a bid to promote a safe Internet environment and more responsible use of online technologies among Nigerian users.
According to a statement by Ugochi Ekwueme, HomeVida communications officer, the Programme, which was launched in February 2015 with the successful training of over 2000 students in various schools across Lagos, will now train an additional 2000 students in Abuja, Ibadan and Lagos on internet safety.
This is in line with the Safer Internet Nigeria objective to train 100,000 students in 5 years, the statement said.
The next set of trainings will kick off in Abuja on May 24th at Radio House, Nigeria Press Council Hall, Abuja, with the introduction of Web Rangers Programme aimed at training young people to become ‘Online Safety Ambassador’ who will help raise awareness of online safety with their peers.
The Safer Internet Ambassador (SIA), Nollywood actor, Femi Jacobs and the Director General of the National Film and Videos Censors Board, Patricia Bala, will be present at the event to talk to the students about the importance of being safe while using the internet.
